Pizzas, how much do they cost? Even a bog standard margarita will set you back a couple of quid. I'm feeling rather smug with myself, (it doesn't take a lot) as last night I made a pizza, from scratch, sauce too! OK so perhaps I didn't milk the buffalo and churn my own mozzarella...I was in a hurry. It was rather damn tasty too, OK I did rather over do the chillies, didn't think they were quite so hot as the turned out to be. Next time I think I'll turn it in the oven as it did cook from the back, but these are just peculiarities to the process.
The overwhelming realisation of it all though is just how damn cheap it is to make a blooming good pizza. I made enough dough for 3 12 inchers which probably cost about 50p in ingredients. I made enough sauce for easily a dozen bases and that cost about £2... but only cos I used organic pealed tomatoes, I'm sure equally tasty results could be got for half that. The cheese is the pricey part, but even so, there's no reason why you couldn't be able to make a pizza for less than a quid, and one that's substantially lower in salt and sugar than store bought ones. Don't imagine I'll ever buy another pizza again in fact.
