To sleep, perchance to dream.

Why do phone batteries wait until the middle of the night to go flat? I remember when a phone would hold it's charge for weeks before needing to be plugged in. But now the best you hope for is a few days and only then if you never actually use the thing. Or maybe I just need to buy a new battery?

Well regardless, my phone at least seems to have an uncanny knack for running low on juice in the middle of the night. Again, in the old day, it would do the decent thing and just die peacefully, silently! Ok yes so it would be flat all the next day cos obviously you wouldn't think to check it's power status when you got up which I admit could be cause for inconvenience, but there was an answer for that too. Have a back-up charger at work!

Anyway not anymore, phones chirp at you to tell you they need feeding. It's a strange chirp however. During the day it's almost inaudible, yet in the stillness of night, while only having a duration measurable in nano-seconds, it's loud enough to yank you from the deepest slumber, no matter where it may be in the house. And so it was last night.

I was fast asleep, well so I presume, I don't know for sure as I was asleep and unable to form a view-point on how asleep I was. My phone did it's polite little 'feed me' yelp. So I got up, plugged it in and went right back to sleep. Then it did it again, I'm not sure how much time had past as I had been asleep again. This sometimes happens I noted to myself, you may plug the charger in, but it doesn't always recognise that you've done this. So I re-plugged in the charger and off to nod I returned.

For the best part of an hour I would guess this sequence of events happened. When I finally actually woke up and plugged in the charger rather than just momentarily waking up and immediately dreaming about getting up and plugging in the charger. Which for all this stories innocuously amusing appearance, it does reveal something much deeper. Never let anyone suggest that the brain isn't absolutely capable of creating any reality so convincing it can't dupe you into believing it. ...fuck I'm like totally a philosopher innit?
